PAWNS

From DreyNet

PAWNS is an acronym for Player Avatar World Network System.

I had the idea of running a series of interlinked play by email role-playing games. The hook was that the characters knew they were in a game world and there would be an over-arcing meta narrative of the world behind these game worlds. I would never disguise the fact that the characters were in a game and borrowed devices from computer game mechanics to highlight this.

Only one scenario of the PAWNS series was completed: the Technomancer.

Intro

PAWNS is a highly-experimental play-by-email game requiring wits, imagination and, most importantly, an open mind.

PAWNS is an unknown quantity. A black box. You don’t know what genre of game it is until you try it. You won’t get to create your character. You won’t be told the rules. The last three sentences are only partially true. The game will come together before you like an origami dragon: a shape flat and void transforming into something intricate and fierce.

To play PAWNS you must be willing to let go of some preconceptions of what a role-playing game can be. You must be prepared to be frustrated and uncertain. You need to be able to flow with the circumstances you are presented with.

By responding to this message, you will indicate your desire to play. There will be no further communication outside of the game.
